Background
Most of us are unaware of what flows beneath us as we traverse our cities and towns. Storm drainage and dams might escape our notice, that is until flooding impacts our homes and communities.
The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service wanted a clear and engaging information graphic that simplified a complex system of inter-related parts. There are many ways to tell this story. Together with the client, we explored a number of approaches to best share how properly sized fish passages can benefit people, the environment and the economy.
A combination of custom, existing and modified icons were created to help tell each part of the story. The design broke the story into chunks with direction arrows to guide readers through the narrative.
